Choosing the right treatment for your teeth

The term smile makeover refers to the overall process of improving the appearance of a patient’s teeth through one or more of the cosmetic dentistry procedures that are available at Riverview Dental.

When considering a smile makeover, there are several components that should be considered. First, is the procedure. Is the patient going to receive veneers, bonding, whitening, or an inlay or onlay? Second, will the procedure get the results desired by the patient? A procedure may change the alignment and balance of the teeth in the aesthetic zone of your mouth (the portion of the lower and upper teeth that are displayed when a patient smiles). Reshaping or lengthening teeth in this area can affect the way a person chews when they eat or how the teeth and tongue interact when a person speaks. Your dentist will help you evaluate these factors prior to any work being started.

It’s also important to consider if the selected procedure will mesh with the patient’s facial appearance, skin tone, or hair color. Although these changes may seem unimportant before the procedure, a patient needs to think about how their appearance will be affected by a smile makeover.
